Saudia Young
New York born performer Saudia Young came to Berlin in 2008 to find her inner Marlene Dietrich and Josephine Baker and bumped into her inner Big Mamma Thornton & Louie Prima on the way. Actually the talented singer/songwriter/ actress found her own unique voice on the smokey stages of Berlin adding a fine feather to her performance history hat. Young's Berlin based band play a mixture of swing, blues and Dark Rock & Roll. An electric performer, Young tips her hat to the "dark kabarett swingers from the 20s to the present". Saudia`s sultry voice, comedic story telling banter and the excellent musicianship of the band make this a not to be missed act. Saudia Young-appears in duo with guitar or bass (Nino Ruggieri, or Dirk Schmigotzki) and with a with full band: Florian Von Frieling-Guitar, Dirk Schmigotzki-Contra Bass and Fabio Duwentester-Drums. Saudia Young studied acting with Wynn Handman, and dance at the Joffrey Ballet School and the Alvin Ailey American Dance theatre in New York City.
Young first arrived in Berlin in 2006 and landed the lead voice over acting role of Oskar, in School for Vampires (English version of cartoon series Die Schule der kleinen Vampire from Hahn Film).
Young co-created the hit cabaret/theatre series Lost Cabaret with Daniel Mahlheur and co-created the Schwarze Liste Kabarett theatre with Anders Kamp.
Young leads her band and has performed with: The Beez, Berlin Sling, Elyas Khan, Jasper James, Kim Boekbinder, Mamie Minch, Some of the 17 Hippies, Sxip Shirey, and The Depressionaires.
Now based in Berlin Young has recorded second an EP for release in 2013.
